How can I help your journey to Japan?

日本旅行のお手伝いはできますか?

The world would be better if everyone could experience a slice of life abroad.

When it comes to Japan, the past few years of border restrictions have made such opportunities impossible for most of us. Yet, this time to pause presents a powerful opportunity to build an intentional plan for unlocking your ideal Japan adventure. My mission is to empower you to learn from the Japan I grew to know and love, as I’ve done for hundreds of others over the past decade. Send me a quick message, and I’d be happy to discuss how I might be able to support your next Japan adventure.

Engage Japan

Hajimemashite!

When I traveled to Japan for the first time in 2004, Steve Jobs was three years away from unveiling the iPhone, and portable GPS was limited to bulky, unreliable Garmin devices. The same was true five years later when I took the leap and moved to Tokyo, a time when most people viewed smartphones as unnecessary luxury items.

I established lifelong bonds with Japanese classmates, neighbors, and strangers in that technologically disconnected world. I did so by asking in person, and these conversations unlocked the Edo-period streets of Kanazawa or the lush forests of Yakushima

Technology empowers us, but it also exposes us to the influence of tech companies, who invest billions in making their products as addictive and irreplaceable as possible. I created Boston Intercultural because, almost two decades later, the technological independence of the 2020s has led to a dependence on Google maps and Wikipedia rather than on the rich connections right in front of us. So whether you’re a first-time tourist looking to confidently explore Tokyo and Kyoto, or a veteran traveler looking to backpack Wakayama, I’m here to help.

The first question I ask is What job are you hiring Japan to do? This question might sound odd, but it’s a powerful technique derived from the works of Clayton Christensen to discover the why behind our Japan journey. We’ll then work backward, learning how we can leverage our tools to unlock your Japan journey.

I offer a travel coaching service, which I limit to a few individuals at a time. If you’re interested or have a question, please fill out the form below, and I’ll reply with a suggested number of sessions based on your needs and price. In addition, if you have a few simple questions about upcoming travel, I’m typically happy to answer those free of charge based on current capacity, so please feel free to message me!
